Eveland Access, Mahaska County, Iowa — Building upon the success of last year, the Mahaska County Conservation Department held their second annual Halloween Bash at Eveland Access Campground on Saturday.

Dave Sedivec, Mahaska County Conservation Director says that the idea for holding the Halloween Bash came from some inspiration he picked up from a different county. “It’s something fun for the end of the year.”

Sedivec said that last year was the first time the conservation department held the event, and he believed the event went over well, so they decided to continue it. Sedivec credited the volunteers that he described as “amazing,” and included “the ideas we got from people.” Sedivec added he enjoyed, “how into it people got.”

It was the final week of camping at Eveland Access, and Sedivec said the facility had been full nearly all week.

Summer Brice, a camper at Eveland Access was enjoying herself on Saturday evening, passing out candy to what she estimated to be 250 kids. “We had to come out early this week just to reserve a spot.”

Brice said “it’s just neat watching everybody decorate their campers … It’s fun because everybody’s participating in it.”

Pumpkin painting and ghoulish games started things off on Saturday, along with several contests like, coyote call, owl call and the best scream contest. The kids always loved Mrs. Fox at the library, and she arrived around 4:30 for story time. Trick or treating then started at 5 p.m.

Several campsites were elaborately decorated and judging was to take place for the best decorated campsite. The evening ended with a movie, ‘Hotel Transylvania’ , at the shelter location.

Eveland Access camping has now closed down for the season, but will reopen in the Spring.
