Bob Wersen of Interpower Receives Advocacy in Action Award

Oskaloosa, Iowa –October 2015—Bob Wersen, President and Founder of the Interpower® Group of Companies, was honored recently with the Iowa Association of Business and Industry’s “Advocacy in Action” award.

Wersen received this award at the Advanced Manufacturing Conference on September 30, 2015 at the Prairie Meadows Events and Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa.

Established in 2014, this award recognizes an ABI member who has been an outstanding advocate for ABI policy efforts. Criteria includes impact on legislators and pro-jobs legislation, mobilizing advocacy by encouraging company-wide participation, and raising public awareness by conducting facility tours with elected officials and community members.

Wersen founded his company, Panel Components Corporation, in 1975 in California. In 1993, he moved the company to Oskaloosa in order to be able to manufacture more of the company’s products. Since none of the California employees chose to accompany him to Iowa, Bob started with an all new Iowa staff. In 2004, the company name was changed to Interpower Corporation. Facilities in Ames and Lamoni, Iowa, and Milton Keynes, England have been added in recent years. The Interpower Group of Companies now employs over 75 people, most of whom are in Iowa. Interpower is the premier supplier of power system components worldwide with its mission to make it easy for customers to design, build, and maintain products for global markets.

Since moving to Iowa, business levels have steadily increased. Originally, the company only made 10% of what was sold. Currently, on-site manufacturing represents 70% of the overall sales. Wersen is responsible for not only creating jobs in Iowa, but helping to move the manufacturing industry forward. As an active member of the ABI Board of Directors and a former ABI Chair, Wersen has been a champion of Iowa manufacturers.
