Michael “Mike” Fleener, 59, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born Wednesday, August 29, 1956 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of William L. and Halene Thrapp Fleener.

Mike attended Oskaloosa High School. Following school, Mike went to work at Goddards Furniture and later at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. Lastly, he worked at Shragos in Oskaloosa until illness forced his retirement.

Mike was a member of the Oskaloosa V.F.W. He was an outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping and boating.

His family includes the love of his life and significant other Diane McReynolds of Oskaloosa; his mother, Halene Fleener of Oskaloosa; five sisters: Janet Walraven of Oskaloosa, Cindy Stirratt of Tracy, Kathy (& Howard) Lamb of Oskaloosa, Marilyn (& Jeff) Crumbley of Pelham, Alabama, and Sherry Fleener of Oskaloosa; a brother, Terry (& Debbie) Rees of Rose Hill; a stepson, Todd McReynolds of Oskaloosa; a step daughter, Jill (& Shawn) Abernathy of Eddyville; one niece and two nephews that he was a father figure to: Tiffany Davis, Chad Bollinger and Brant Champoux; other nieces and nephews: Stacy, Michelle, Eric, Misty, Carissa, Candice, and Tesa
; and many great nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, William Fleener; a nephew, John Jameson Jones; a niece, Star Marie Rees; and a brother-in-law, Jim Stirratt.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in Henness Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Friday after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
