Saturday, October 3rd will be the annual Trunk and Tailgate sale hosted by Central Reformed Church. The sale will feature over 30 vendors selling a wide variety of items. The event was started out of a perceived need for a garage sale venue for those who are not able to host one at their home. “There are many people who really want to have a garage sale, but because they live in an apartment, in the country, or on a low trafficked street they do not have an opportunity to do so” comments Andy Baker, Director of Outreach at Central Reformed. The event took the name Trunk and Tailgate Sale because, initially, most vendors sold right out of their personal vehicles. While most now sell at tables provided by the church, the concept of people bringing their goods to sell at a visible place in town, rather then their more isolated location, remains key. While Central Reformed provides the location, tables, volunteers, and the advertising for the event there is no charge for buyers to attend or for vendors to sell. According to Baker, the church keeps this event free because “we view hosting this as a gift to our community. We want to provide everyone who desires to hold a garage sell a quality place to hold it, and we want to give the public an opportunity to get a lot of bargains in one easy location.” In addition to the sale the church offers complimentary cookies and coffee to all attending. The Trunk and Tailgate sale will be held from 8-11am on Saturday, October 3rd in the Central Reformed Church Parking lot, located at the intersection of S. 7th St. and 2nd Ave. E. Shoppers are encouraged to park in the church’s south lot or in their gravel lot on S. 8th St. A few vendor spots remain available and can be reserved by calling the Central Reformed office (673-3843).
