Betty Swan, 87, died Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Renaissance Center in Dillon, Montana. Betty Jean Wilson Swan was born July 22, 1928 near Rose Hill, Iowa to Bill and Maggie Wilson.

Betty graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1946. On December 7, 1947, she was married to Hugh Swan in Oskaloosa. Betty and Hugh farmed in the New Sharon area until 1960. They moved to Oregon for a while, then returned to the Oskaloosa area. Upon returning, Betty worked at the overall factory in Oskaloosa. Later they moved to Barnes City. Betty worked at the overall factory in Pella. Later, she found work at Sig Manufacturing in Montezuma. During that time, they moved to New Sharon in 1971. Betty retired in July of 1990.

Betty enjoyed her life. She had a make do with what you have – fix it, glue it, tape it, nail it, staple it and enjoy your life – kind of attitude. She enjoyed sewing, craft projects, gardening, milking the cows and gathering the eggs. Her family was a huge part of her life and she especially loved spending time with them, camping, trout fishing, being outdoors, taking walks, exploring ghost towns and old homesteads. During retirement, Betty enjoyed traveling the country in their mini-home, site seeing, visiting family, making beaded ornaments and embroidery for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Judy (& TJ) Street of Newton, Iowa, Joyce (& Lyle) Walker of Dillon, and Dale (& Karen) Swan of Port Arthur, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrea Walker, of Dillon, Montana, Clinton (& Nicole) Walker of Great Falls, Montana, and Ashley (& Zachery) Orth of Helena, Montana; seven great grandchildren: Tory Walker, Tyler Walker, Jordyn Walker, Cordell Walker, Carson Walker, Whitley Orth, Carter Orth, and two step-great grandchildren: Dillon DeJean and Cole DeJean.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Donald Swan; her parents; an infant son, William Hugh Swan; sisters: Margaret Scholtus and Ethel Jacobs; brothers: Glen Wilson and Ray Wilson; and a sister-in-law, Ardith Swan.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday, September 7, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
