Jay DeRonde, 64, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, August 29, 2015, in Monroe County as a result of an A.T.V. accident. He was born February 6, 1951 in Mahaska County, the son of Jacob and Margaret Roozeboom DeRonde.

Jay graduated from Pella Christian High School with the class of 1969. On May 26, 1972, he was united in marriage to Wanda Lender at her family home south of Oskaloosa.

Following high school he farmed with his father, and also worked for Vos Brothers Construction, J.W. Concrete and Cargill for a time. Jay started his truck driving career in a dump truck for Mich Coal Company. He then went to work as an owner operator for Solar Transport, and Lynn’s Poultry. In 1985, Jay began working at Pella Rolscreen (Pella Corp), and spent five years in the factory, and then went back to driving semi for Rolscreen. He was awarded safe driver award many times and has driven over three million miles without an accident. Jay continued to farm the family farm until 1996.

Jay was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He enjoyed Turkey and Deer hunting; especially enjoyed deer hunting from his deer tower west of his house. He also enjoyed fishing, especially trips to Canada. He enjoyed traveling to various states to camp and ride ATVs. Jay’s family was the center of his world, he could not wait for his grandchildren to visit, and they were always welcome.

His family includes his wife of over 43 years, Wanda DeRonde of Oskaloosa; three children: Justin DeRonde of Oskaloosa, Jeremy (& Sarah) DeRonde of Oskaloosa, and Michelle (& Trevor) Brackin of Pella; nine grandchildren: Teejay, Erica, Hudson and Lydia Brackin, Dayne Gardner, Jennah DeRonde, Faith, Jaden and Gracie DeRonde; two sisters: Faye (& Jim) Drost of Oskaloosa and Carolyn (& Lee) DeGroot of Oskaloosa; a brother in law, Wayne DeBruin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda DeBruin; a nephew, Jeff DeBruin; and a brother in law, Jay Armstrong.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Rodney DeRonde officiating.
Burial will be in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4-8 Tuesday evening.
Memorials may be made to MHP Serenity House.
