Lynnville Event To Help Those In Need

Smoke On The Water BBQ Competition & Benefit

Smoke on the Water BBQ Competition & Benefit

Lynnville, IA- Last year, 2 longtime friends got together to raise money for a family in need, and that’s when Smoke on the Water was born. Jeff Armet and Jim Richardson, both of Lynnville, are two men who found their passion; not only smoking & barbequing, but also helping those in need.

Last month, Jeff smoked over 800 lbs. of pulled pork to raise money for his sister, whose husband was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a couple weeks ago.

The two men have smoked salmon, turkey, pork butt, ribs, brisket and roast beef, just to name a few! They have also found a few competitions to participate in, where they have met Masters of Barbequing and learned several ‘tricks of the trade’.

The Smoke on the Water 2015 committee has been meeting, planning and messaging; and they are super, super excited for this year’s event!
Please join us for the 2nd Annual BBQ Smoke Off to benefit someone in need in our great community!

Jennie Van Wyk, daughter of Ruthanne and the late Marvin Van Wyk, who is a Lynnville-Sully class of 1986 graduate, was hit by an oncoming car on January 24, 2014. After suffering with pain, treatments, hospitalizations and multiple surgeries for a year, she ultimately had to have her right leg amputated just below the right knee in January of 2015. She continues to need physical therapy and will forever need prosthetic replacements. The other driver had insurance, but not nearly adequate for past medical expenses, lost wages or the lifetime of future medical expenses. Jennie must also move from her split level home to a home that is more accommodating.

Zimm’s Kettle Korn, T-shirts with a special design for this year, and the 50/50 drawing will all be available for purchase around 12:00 pm. Bidding for the silent auction starts at 2:00 pm, with the winners of the auction and 50/50 drawing being announced during the awards ceremony at 8:00 pm.

For your enjoyment, there will be Horseshoes and Bag Toss available all day long.

There will be a Bluegrass Open Air Jam featuring Wind River from 2 pm to 6 pm, then DJ Dave Crawford will start at 6 pm and will play music til Jill Crawford allows him to go home.

The tasting will begin at 6 pm, featuring pork loin, pork shoulder, chicken, beef roast îand a variety of sides. The $5 tasting donation will benefit Jennie Van Wyk.

Come join the Lynnville community for a great and fun event on Saturday August 29th, 2015.
