Harold Eugene Wheaton, Sr., 76, of Clive, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, August 8, 2015 at his home. Harold Eugene Wheaton, Sr., the son of William and Icel Franklin Wheaton was born on June 27, 1939 in Eldon, Iowa.

Harold was one of four siblings and attended Fairfield High School, graduating with the class of 1958. Harold married Barbara Ladely on February 4, 1961. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1962 and honorably discharged in 1964. Harold enjoyed his work with Diamond Laboratories during his service career.

During his lifetime, he held various jobs including an equipment operator for Jackson Construction, a maintenance mechanic for J.C. White Co. and worked in maintenance for Iowa Road Builders and Crown Ready Mix. He became a tractor/trailer truck driver and worked for Growmark, Inc. and became self-employed in 1985 until present as general manager and maintenance supervisor for Imperial III Partnership and Jared Johnson Properties. Harold enjoyed operating large equipment.

Harold’s hobbies included: NASCAR, he was a Dale Earnhart Sr. fan; NHRA Drag Racing, with John Force being his favorite driver; and was into truck pulling. He spent many years snowmobiling, competing in snowmobile races, boating at Lake Ponderosa and gardening. He was a member of the Tri State Truck Pullers Association.

Harold is survived by his wife, Barbara of Clive, Iowa; his son, Harold “JR” Wheaton; his granddaughters, Destiney Wheaton and Alexa Wheaton; his brother, Clifford Wheaton of Washington, Iowa; as well as many other friends and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carroll Wheaton; and his sister, Viola Bennett.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Union Mills Christian Church.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 until the time of the funeral service.
Burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
