Oskaloosa, Iowa – The dirt is almost shaking, and the sounds of cheering fans will fill the air Monday, as the 20th Annual Front Row Challenge makes it way back to the Southern Iowa Speedway.

Terry McCarl, sprint car driver, promoter and race fan spoke with Oskaloosa News about the one night racing special.

“Time sure flies. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since we came up with the idea,” said McCarl.

At the time, McCarl’s son Carson was just born, and now he races sprint cars himself.

“A lot of great times, a lot of great racing. A lot of fun things have happened,” added McCarl.

The race has always drawn some of the up-and-comers to the racing world, as well as those who have reached the pinnacle of their racing career.

Tony Stewart had his season come to a halt at the Southern Iowa Speedway 2 years ago, when a crash in turn 4 resulted in the 3-time Sprint Cup Champion leaving the track in a ambulance. He eventually missed the remainder of the racing season after having several surgeries to repair the damage.

This year, the 410 Sprint Cars make their return. Each car generates approximately 930 horse-power, which will equate to some of the fastest laps ever turned at the Oskaloosa track.

On top of that, free 40″ television sets will be given away by the heat-winners. The winner will toss a Frisbee into the stands, and if you catch the Frisbee, you will then collect your prize. Besides the 40″ television sets, there will be shirts, hats and other give-away prizes.

For the racers themselves, they will be putting it all on the line for 20 grand. “Twenty-thousand dollars is a lot of money in one night,” added McCarl.
