New Sharon, Iowa – The Iowa State Patrol is confirming that 3 New Sharon boys, Jamie (16), Carson (13) and Christian (10) Singletary were killed in an accident Thursday afternoon, around 1pm.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Queens Avenue and 130th Street, East of New Sharon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2002 rock truck driven by Shawn M. Schippers was southboud on Queens Avenue when it collided with a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire at the intersection of Queens and 130th. Both vehicles came to a rest in the west ditch.

The North Mahaska School District posted to their website earlier, “It is with deepest sadness we inform you three of our students’ lives were lost today in an auto accident. Counselors will be available at the school tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to support students, staff, and community.”

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The ISP was assisted at the scene by Iowa DOT, New Sharon Fire & Rescue, Mahaska County Emergency Management, Mahaska County Sheriffs Office and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services.
