John Abner Gingrich, Jr., 93, of Ottumwa died Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. He was born Wednesday, July 5, 1922, in Burlington, Iowa the son of John A. and Ada L. Fletcher Gingrich.
John graduated from the Danville High School with the Class of 1940. On September 14, 1944, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Darrah in Burlington.
John farmed his whole life, first in Burlington until 1975 then he moved to Ottumwa where he farmed with his grandson Todd Gingrich for 35 years.
John was a 32nd degree Mason at Ottumwa Lodge #16 and a member of the Hedrick Lions Club.
John enjoyed farming, gardening, carpentry, and working with livestock.
His family includes his wife: Anna Gingrich of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Martha Hillard.
As was his wish, John’s body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
