Robert W. Pryor, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Robert was born October 22, 1932, in Albia, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Myrtle Dicks Pryor.

Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon his discharge he returned to Albia.

Robert was united in marriage to Martha Cozad, and later divorced. Then on June 21, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary Wymore at Oskaloosa, Mary died November 27, 2008.

Robert worked at Oak View Cemetery in Albia for a time. He then worked for nearly thirty years at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa, retiring from there in the late 1980’s.

Robert was an active member, and enjoyed going to the American Legion, V.F.W. and the Eagles clubs in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed sitting outside and feeding the squirrels and listening to country music. He also enjoyed his pets, especially his dog J.J. He delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his two children: Deb Giese of Centerville, and Jack VanderLinden of Delta; eleven grandchildren: Angie Ford, Andy Thomas, Gerald Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Terra Giese, Samantha Giese, Carl Giese, Nicholas Thomas, Eric VanderLinden, Patty Hernandez, and Kendra VanderLinden; thirteen great grandchildren; his sister, Deloris (& Richard) Rockwell of Oxon Hill, Maryland; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Shelly Hegwood.

In addition to his wife Mary, Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herbie and Tommy Pryor.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend David Brown officiating.
As was Robert’s wish, his body has been cremated. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Family will be present from 9:00 to service time Saturday morning to greet friends and relatives.
Military honors will be given at the funeral home by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
