Joseph Blommers, 38, of Eddyville died Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Joe was born January 26, 1977, in Pella, the son of LeRoy and Marilyn Goemaat Blommers.

Joe graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1995. Following graduation, Joe went to work at Pella Corporation. He also worked seasonally for Golden Furrow in Hedrick.

On March 1, 1999, Joe was united in marriage to Heather Merringer in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joe enjoyed, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, traveling and rock hunting.

He was a member of Faith Community Church, and the Oskaloosa Elks lodge 340.

Joe’s family includes his wife, Heather Blommers of Eddyville; a daughter, Alison Blommers at home; a son, Zach (& Valerie) McElroy of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Madelynn and Christian McElroy; his father, LeRoy (& Connie) Blommers of Pella; his mother, Marilyn Hopwood of Oskaloosa; a brother, Jason (& Carrie) Blommers of Pella; a sister, Jody (& Chris) VanPatten of rural Oskaloosa; a step sister, Ami (& Jason) Morgan of Knoxville; nieces and nephews: Brian Gott, Stephanie Gott, Nathan Gott, Abigail Gott, Kelcey Blommers, Lindsey Blommers and Ashley Blommers; and step niece and nephews: Morgan Swank, John Swank, Ryan Morgan and Brandon Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Grant Blommers; and his step father, Jim Hopwood.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Dan Visser officiating.
Private family burial will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery at Pella prior to the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-8 Monday evening to greet friends and relatives.
A memorial has been established for his daughter Alison’s education fund.
