Loebsack Visits Crisis Intervention
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Funding for those in a family or sexual assault crisis is something Congressman Dave Loebsack learned more about this past week in Oskaloosa.
Crisis Intervention Services provides support and empowerment to victims/survivors of domestic and dating violence and/or sexual assault in Appanoose, Davis, Jasper, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Wapello and Wayne counties in Iowa.
The US Congressman made a return trip to Crisis Intervention Services which is headquartered in Oskaloosa, but services over a dozen counties in the region.
Loebsack was last at the non-profit in April of 2013, when he learned about the services, and how the federal government and budgetary issues impact the shelter and other services provided.
This time he was part of a roundtable discussion about the current programs being implemented, such as peer helping groups and advocacy programs. Other types of groups have been implemented in the prison system where, according to Crisis Intervention, they are bringing about changes in the lives of those inside the prison system.
One anonymous woman, who is currently at the Crisis Intervention Shelter in Oskaloosa, spoke about how the service has impacted her. “If it wasn’t for them [Crisis Intervention], I don’t know what I would have done, because I had nothing.”
The woman explained that all of her family was out of state and without the help of Crisis Intervention and the staff there, her life would be very different.
