Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the third annual John Eberline Player of the Year Awards.

Senior men’s basketball player Alec Schwab (Peru, Ill., Business Management) won the Male award, while senior women’s golfer Maggie Yang (Chino, Calif., Biology) collected the Female honor.

An NAIA Honorable-Mention All-American (first-team all-Midwest Collegiate Conference), Schwab averaged 22.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per outing in addition to 53 steals, 45 assists, and three blocks in 32 games last winter. The two-time Booster Club Player of the Month and one-time MCC Player of the Week, he made 113 three-pointers and led the team in scoring 16 times (high of 37).

Schwab guided the Statesmen to the MCC Tournament Finals and helped WPU to its seventh 20-win season in the last nine years.

Yang was also an NAIA Honorable-Mention All-American and topped all league players as the MCC Player of the Year. In 25 rounds, she owned a 77.6 stroke average with a school-record low of 71. She posted 19 rounds in the 70s, won three tournaments, and paced the navy and gold to six event wins.

The senior was at the forefront as WPU returned to nationals after defending their league tournament crown. She was a two-time Booster Club Player of the Month and four-time MCC Player of the Week.
