WG, SB, VB Pick Up Scholar Team Honors
Oskaloosa–Three William Penn athletic teams took care of business academically in 2014-2015 and their efforts helped them to become NAIA Scholar Teams.
A total of 1,502 programs (212 more than last year) received the laurel, highlighted by the Missouri Baptist women’s tennis team being named Scholar Team of the Year after posting a combined 3.94 Grade Point Average.
As they did last year, the Statesmen women’s golfers, headed by Coach Nik Rule, led WPU with a 3.44 GPA. The softball team, under the guidance of Mike Christner, had a 3.13 GPA, while the volleyball team, led by Jennifer Carlson, also surpassed the mark with a 3.09 GPA.
For a team to earn NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
