While still heartbreaking for coaches and athletes to look back upon, the men’s indoor track and field team’s silver finish at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships was unquestionably an impressive feat and is more than deserving of the #6 story from the 2014-2015 year.

WPU held the lead going into the final few races, but a rule violation committed during celebration of an event win doomed the team to second place. The runner-up finish was still the best for the program in a decade.

Paced by MCC Track Athlete of the Year Alex Edwards and his three individual event titles (also won on a relay team), the Statesmen were crowned champions in seven of the 18 competitions. Cornelius McCastle was chosen as MCC Field Athlete of the Year and Head Coach Allen Friesen was tabbed as Co-MCC Coach of the Year.

#6 Performance of the 2014-2015 Year

Ochaung Akway added his name to William Penn cross country lore after a big effort at the league championships and his effort found a home at #6 on the 2014-2015 performance list.

Akway nearly claimed gold at the Midwest Collegiate Conference meet, finishing second in the 59-runner competition with a time of 26:59.2 on the 8K course.

The run qualified him for nationals and at the Big Dance, Akway finished 216th in 27:25.3. The junior was in the top 25 in four races last fall en route to being a first-team all-MCC performer.

#6 Video of the 2014-2015 Year

MCG not only produced a terrific University-wide promotional video, but the folks there also got the ball rolling on a new line of intense sport-specific videos. Softball and volleyball were the first to be made and they hit the top 10 at #6 on the 2014-2015 list.

Who wouldn’t want to wear the navy and gold for Coach Christner or Coach Carlson after seeing these amazing vids???
