#10 Story of the 2014-2015 Year
Summer is flying at superhero speed, but do not fear Statesmen Nation, the William Penn Sports Information office is here for a little rewind as we look back at the best moments from the 2014-2015 sports year. Over the next several days, the top 10 stories from last year will be revisited.
Getting the ball rolling at #10 is the honorable-mention list–story lines that narrowly missed the cut.
–The men’s and women’s soccer teams continued to trek upward, evidenced by hosting their first conference tournament games in nearly a decade. Each team had four all-Midwest Collegiate Conference honorees.
–Football went 7-4 in the fall and 14 members were recognized on the all-Midwest League teams, including six first-teamers. The gridiron group was in the mix for a postseason berth all season, eventually missing a bid by three spots.
–Four first-team all-MCC performers (six total selections) helped the softball crew during its spring campaign.
–Women’s track and field collected numerous all-MCC laurels and had three national qualifiers (Meaghan Foster twice and Tarah Alexander). WPU was also successful in breaking seven school records.
–A total of four individuals advanced to the wrestling national tournament with three of them notching a win in the event.
–Three players garnered all-conference recognition during the baseball season, led by a pair of first-squad members in Josh Ruiz and Patrick Roxbury.
–Janay Pritchett’s first-team all-MCC award topped the women’s basketball year.
–Top-team all-MCC pick Jacques Kaune led the Statesmen men’s bowling team to high finishes all year long.
–Men’s cross country runner Ochaung Akway finished second at the MCC Championships to punch a ticket for nationals.
–Tarah Alexander almost made a return trip to the women’s cross country nationals, collecting honorable-mention all-MCC honors along the way.
–Men’s golfer Gareth Sargent was the best of the league’s fresh faces as he was named MCC Newcomer of the Year.
–Stephanie Adams posted high finish after high finish to become an all-MCC selection.
–The volleyball team received two all-league picks.
