The Oskaloosa Lions Club held its 4th annual Lions Golf Shootout last Saturday at Harvest Point Golf Course in Oskaloosa. This is an annual fund raiser for the Oskaloosa Lions Club that is designed to be a bit different from a regular golf tournament.

After a community pancake breakfast at the Edmundson Golf Course Pro Shop, Lions headed over to the practice putt and driving range at Harvest Point to set up fun games for the golfers to play before or after shooting their rounds of golf. the Closest to the Pin contest paid out the most amount of money with $300 going to first place contestant Nick Louderback of Oskaloosa, who shot just 12 inches from the pin. Mike Foster of North Liberty came in second place at 25 inches from the pin, winning the $200 prize. Alex Knoot of Oskaloosa and Brent Jack of Belle Plaine split the $100 third place prize with a tie at 30 inches from the pin.

Other game were the Putting contest, which paid out in Fareway gift cards, and the Chipping contest, which paid out in Hy-Vee gift cards.

In Putting, targets are drawn around three small practice holes. Contestants putt two balls at each hole, scoring points depending on where their balls land on the targets. Tony Witt of Oskaloosa came in first place, followed by Kari Flaherty of Pella took second place and third place went to a tie between Wade Schelker and Nik Rul, both of Oskaloosa.

Cody Major of Oskaloosa won the Chipping contest, which allows golfers to chip six balls at a large target. Points are earned depending on where on the target the balls land. Second place went to Cory Sheeley of Oskaloosa and third place was won by Connie Groot of Oskaloosa.

The event raised approximately $1500 for the Oskaloosa Lions Club to use toward its service projects, which include hearing and sight preservation for people in Mahaska County.

The Oskaloosa Lions Club thanks its sponsors of the tournament and looks forward to next year’s Lions Golf Shootout.
