Storms Cause Damage Through Southeast Iowa

Oskaloosa, Iowa – A severe storm system made its way across Mahaska, Marion, Monroe and Wapello counties on Saturday evening.
Oskaloosa received rain and a little wind resulting in a few broken limbs.
Reports of nearly 2 inches of rain in the New Sharon area are coupled with heavy wind damage south of the Eddyville and Chillicothe area.
At 4:48pm the public reported 1.75 inch hail to the National Weather Service in Des Moines. As the storms continued to march East and South across the area, a trained spotter in Harvey reported hail up to 3.5 inches at 5:20pm.
Near Bussey at 5:30pm, a trained spotter reported a funnel cloud 1 mile north of the community. The reports continued to come in, with another report of a funnel 2 miles Southeast of Eddyville.
As the storms passed, photos of damage from the Eddyville and Chillicothe area starting to appear. Power lines South of the Cargill facility were pushed over to the West, and at least one farm suffered significant damage to outbuildings.
The Ottumwa Post is reporting that a home in Chillicothe was severely damaged by wind, and a Wapello County deputy found 5 occupants in the home.
