Emma Sanders
Formerly of rural Deep River. Emma Sanders, 86 of Iowa City and formerly of rural Deep River died Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City of Alzheimer’s. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with Pastor George Salnave officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Oaknoll Foundation 1 Oaknoll Court Iowa City, Iowa 52246.
Emma Marie Prothero Sanders was born on April 26, 1924 to George Edward and Signa Isaacson Prothero near Albia. She graduated from Barnes City High School in 1942. Emma married Edward E. Sanders in Lancaster, Missouri on December 17, 1942. They lived on a farm near Barnes City most of their married life. She was a member of the Barnes City United Methodist Church and was very active in the Sunday School and Bible School programs. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Emma enjoyed gardening, doll making, sewing and painting.
Emma is survived by her daughters and families: Mary Ann Snyder of Iowa City, Linda (Gail) Dieleman of Plymouth, Minnesota and Nancy (Bruce) Dieleman of West Des Moines. There are four grandchildren, Stephen Snyder of Iowa City, Bryan (Karen) Dieleman of Maple Grove, Minnesota, William Dieleman of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Leticia (Jason) Montegna of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition there are six great grand children, Austin and Edward of Iowa City, Kian, Brendan and Raelyn of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Grant of Atlanta, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward, Leo and Norman and two sisters, Lillian Brown and Darlene (infant), her husband Edward on August 4, 1997 and a son-in-law George D. Snyder.
