Karl D. Dugger, age 84, of What Cheer died Thursday evening, November 4, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, at Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer with the Pastor John DeBoef of Hilltop Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Chapel. The family will greet visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to the What Cheer Fire and Rescue Department.

Karl Dean Dugger, son of Clarence Wilbur and Anna Lena Archer Dugger, was born February 9, 1926 at his parents’ rural home near Barnes City. Karl was a 1944 graduate of Gibson High School and then began farming with his parents. He married Maxine Fuller, June 6, 1948, at the What Cheer United Methodist Church; they made their home on a farm near Thornburg. They purchased a farm east of What Cheer in 1950 and remained there until 1969, when they purchased another farm north of What Cheer. They remained there until 1990, when they moved to their home in What Cheer. Mr. & Mrs. Dugger were married 62 years and farmed near What Cheer for 47 years. Karl loved farming and raising cattle and hogs, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He coached all leagues of baseball for his sons and rarely missed any of his children’s, grandchildren’s and great granddaughter’s sporting events. He loved being with his grandkids as they grew up. He was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs Fan.

Karl’s family includes his wife, Maxine of What Cheer; his children: Bob (Janice) Dugger of What Cheer; Barbara German of Zephyrhills, Florida; Mike (Lisa) Dugger of Lake Mills, Iowa; and Mark (Deanna) Dugger of Wayland, Iowa; grandchildren: Megan, Sarah, Alison, Stephanie, Charlie, Keith & Morgan; great granddaughter: Reace Thomas.

Besides his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his twin brother, Keith; his older brother, James and a granddaughter, Molly Dugger.
