LaVerne Fry, 84, of Keswick, died Friday, November 12, 2010. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Harden Funeral Chapel in What Cheer. Visitation will be held Tuesday, with the family present from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the McFarlan Cemetery at What Cheer. Military honors will be conducted by the James Murphy American Legion Post #319. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the James Murphy American Legion.
Harlan LaVerne Fry was born November 12, 1926, in Webster, Iowa, the eldest son of Harlan E. and Lillian Hunzelman Fry. LaVerne passed away on his 84th birthday, November 12, 2010, surrounded by family at his home. He was united in marriage to Margaret E. Sparrow on August 12, 1951, in Sigourney, Iowa. LaVerne was a farmer who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and any activity that kept him out in nature. He was a proud parent and grandparent who loved following and attending all of his family’s various activities. He was also a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and attended many of their games. LaVerne served his country in World War II in the South Pacific and was a member of the American Legion for 65 years. He loved to work hard, visit with friends and family, and lend others a hand however he could. LaVerne is survived by his wife of 59 years Margaret; his children, Gary (Carol) of Northfield, IL; Dale (Holly) of Keswick; and John (Denise) of Keswick; and seven grandchildren: Amy, Sara, Cody and Amber Fry; and Joel, Tina, and Melody Fry; sister Laurene Chapman of Williamsburg, IA; brother Zerne Fry of Harper, IA; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stillborn son Thomas.
