Leighton Man Arrested On Multiple Drug Charges

Leighton, Iowa – Law enforcement with the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Taskforce, which included members of the Mahaska County Sheriffs Office and the Oskaloosa Police Department, conducted a search warrant at the home of Rick Langstraat. The search took place on May 21, 2015.

Langstraat, 49, lives at 1176 Old Highway 92, Leighton, Iowa.

During the search of Rick’s property, approximately 26.48 grams of mariguana was located in several baggies. Scales, packaging materials and a large amount of US Currency were also located. These items were located in several locations on the property including the garage, hidden above a doorway, and in Rick’s bedroom.

Officers state they also discovered 22.3 grams of cocaine located in several baggies, along with digital scales. During the search, the affidavit states that 363 grams of methamphetamine were located in weighted out containers and baggies.

During the execution of the search warrant, officers also found a .40 cal handgun located in the rafter area in a small shed near Rick’s house. Rick is a convicted felon and is prohibited by law to possess a firearm.

Possession with intent to deliver more than 5 grams of methamphetamine is a class B felony, possession with intent to deliver cocaine is a class C felony, possession with intent to deliver marijuana is a class D felony, failing to affix a drug tax stamp is a class D felony, and possession of a firearm as a felon is a class D felony.

Langstraat made his initial appearance in court on Friday.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
