Car Smashes Into Home Late Sunday Evening

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Police Department and the Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to a residence at 1714 South 2nd Street after a car struck the residence just after 9:30 pm, Sunday night.

Police were then searching for two male subjects who had reportedly fled the scene after the accident.

Officers on the scene reported that there were no injuries to the occupants of the home.

On Sunday, April 26th, 2015, at approximately 9:35 p.m., officers of the Oskaloosa Police Department were dispatched to 1714 South 2nd Street, Oskaloosa, Iowa, regarding a vehicle that had driven into a residence.

Upon officer’s arrival, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle, as well as a passenger, had fled from the scene of the accident on foot. The vehicle, a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, had suffered approximately $10,000 damage. The garage portion of this residence had suffered approximately $10,000 damage and a vehicle parked within the garage, a 2005 Honda Accord, had suffered an estimated $7000 damage.

Officers on the scene determined that, prior to the suspect vehicle striking the garage, it had struck another vehicle parked in the area. This vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Caravan, had suffered approximately $3000 damage.

It was also determined that the suspect vehicle had been stolen from 202 18th Avenue East, Oskaloosa, Iowa, moments before this accident.

As a result of the investigation into this matter, officers located and arrested the following persons: 20-year-old D’Angelo Vernon Mackerl, of 402 3rd Avenue East, Oskaloosa, Iowa and 21-year-old Jeffrey Michael McAllister of 1011 High Avenue East, Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Mackerl was determined to be the driver of the suspect vehicle. He was charged with: theft in the 2nd degree, operating while intoxicated, failure to provide information and aid following an accident, striking an unattended vehicle and failure to have a valid driver’s license.

McAllister was determined to be the passenger in the suspect vehicle. He was charged with: theft in the 2nd degree (aiding and abetting) and public intoxication.

Mackerl and McAllister were incarcerated in the Mahaska County Jail and will make their initial appearance in the Mahaska County Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 27, 2015. The investigation into this matter is continuing.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
