Oskaloosa, Iowa (April 10, 2015) —

William Penn University’s social media class will be hosting their third annual Break The Wall event on May 5th, 2015 at Smokey Row from 4 P.M.-6 P.M. Break The Wall is used to help raise awareness for cyber bullying, and will promote a more positive use of social media.

“The most powerful part of Break The Wall is to see the hurtful things that we are still saying to and about each other online. The Internet and social media are tools for our generation to unite and share our passions in ways that we never could before. They are tools, not weapons,” said Melanie Mackey one of Break The Wall’s original creators.

To raise awareness for cyber bullying high school students will write negative comments on the wall, comments that have been said about them on social media, and on May 5th, the walls will be torn down. Marcy Dewitt, of Behavioral Health Services at Mahaska Health Partnership, will be speaking to attendants about cyber bullying.

We encourage you to join us on May 5th, to help Break The Wall on cyber bullying. For more information about Break The Wall, or to share your own stories, like us on Facebook or email us at wagnerm@wmpenn.edu.

If you want to share your own pictures or stories with us then post them on social media and use the hash tag “#BreakTheWall.”
