Oskaloosa, Iowa – Leaders of any group help show the way, and the Oskaloosa Middle School Student Council recently shared what leadership looks like by helping to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association or MDA.

One local student helped to bring attention to the cause. Dalton Sowers has had his life impacted by Muscular Dystrophy, and his peers stepped up to help raise money through a walk held on Saturday morning. With other fundraising efforts, the OMS Student Council helped to raise $104 in all.

Dalton was also the guest of honor at the larger fundraising event for MDA held in Des Moines, by being chosen to cut the ribbon for the 2015 MDA Muscle Walk ceremony.

The group helps approximately 1600 patients in the state. The money raised from the Des Moines walk will help send people like Dalton to camp, like Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.
