One Dies In Rural Mahaska County Accident

Fremont, Iowa – The Mahaska County Sheriffs Office, along with the Iowa State Patrol and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services responded to a single vehicle accident north of Fremont, along Whitwell Avenue, at 7:00pm Tuesday night.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 1988 Chevy Truck driven by 23 year-old Andrew Scholtus, of Oskaloosa, was traveling northbound on Whitwell Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway, striking the bridge guardrail. The truck came to rest on the northeast side of the bridge in the east ditch. The Iowa State Patrol says Scholtus was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle.

Scholtus was transported to Mahaska Health Partnership, but did not survive his injuries.
