Oskaloosa. Larry Simmons, 59, of Oskaloosa, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born Sunday, May 6, 1951, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Joseph Charles and Louella Gladys Buck Simmons. Following school he held various jobs including: doing concrete work, Hormel, Orkin, Oskaloosa Street Department, Pella Corporation, and Tasos. On November 22, 1992, Larry was united in marriage to Kelly Teeter in Oskaloosa. He was a very active member of Faith Church. Larry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and trapping. He also enjoyed processing deer and giving them away, woodworking and playing chess. He delighted very much in his grandchildren. Early on he enjoyed working with horses, riding dirt bikes with his family, and coaching his son in little league.

His family includes his wife: Kelly Simmons; a son: Scott (& Amy) Simmons of New Sharon; a daughter: Misty (& Paul) Scanlon of Oskaloosa; three stepsons: Dwight (& Shelli) Teeter of Beacon, Dustin (& Tiffany Buban) Teeter and Jimmie (& Miranda) Teeter both of Oskaloosa; a stepdaughter: Michelle (& Lance Lemke) Teeter of Oskaloosa; 17 grandchildren and two brothers: Gary (& Betty) Simmons of Oskaloosa, Ed Simmons of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Tim (& Tina) McVey of Oskaloosa.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Larry Simmons will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor David Brown officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the East Linn Cemetery near Redfield, Iowa. Visitation will begin on Tuesday after 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Pheasants Forever or the Larry Simmons Memorial Fund.
