7th Grade AAU Boys Basketball Finishes Season
Des Moines-The Oskaloosa seventh-grade boys basketball team finished the season in Des Moines at the F3 Firehouse School Team Championships. The first game of pool play was against Waukee and were defeated a final score of 71-60. The second pool game was against Urbandale Stars and the boys came out strong and went on a scoring spree with a final score of 69-11. This effort allowed the Indians to advance to championship bracket and play the Urbandale J-Hawks in a late Saturday night battle. It was a back and forth battle and Oskaloosa sealed the win with late free throws and defeated them 54-51 to advance to the final four.
The final four consisted of Ankeny Hawks, Waukee, ADM Tigers, and Oskaloosa. The team came out strong defensively Sunday against Waukee and played a great final game. The game was back and forth and the boys were able to shut down the 3 point shooting in the 2nd half. The game came down to the final seconds with Oskaloosa losing 44-43 to Waukee.
The 7th grade team only encountered losses to 4A schools Valley, Linn-Marr, Waukee, 1A 8th grade Eddyville Ravens and our neighboring 3A rival Norwalk. They end the year with a 41-7 overall AAU and school record.
The team is coached by Travis Miller, Brandon Schultz and Scott Van Veldhuizen.
