All-Star Team candidates should be committed to YOUTH DEVELOPMENT-positive role model, HEALTHY LIVING-taking an active role in a lifelong sport and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY-giving back and supporting others in their community. They should show dedication to YMCA swimming and great sportsmanship to all those around them.

Claire Fiechtner and Jarod Miller were selected to the 2015 Iowa YMCA Competitive Swimming All-Stars Team at the state meet held March 7 & 8, 2015 in Marshalltown.

The following information was submitted by their coaches: Janet Reese, Wade Bolibaugh and Grant Bolibaugh.

Claire Fiechtner, 15 years old, has been swimming for 8 years as an Oskaloosa Dolphin.

Claire has attended nearly every practice this year where she is always ready to swim and work hard. Her only complaint…”the pool water is too hot.” This year, Claire accepted a “one time” challenge from Coach Grant to compete in the 400 IM which has turned into swimming the event multiple times including at the State Meet.

Claire maintains a positive attitude and is always respectful to her teammates, coaches and competitors. Plus, she volunteers to help with the younger swimmers. Her strong work ethic is also demonstrated outside of the pool as she participates on the High School Swimming, Soccer and Shooting teams. She is active in concert and marching band, student council and is an honor roll student. The coaches are very proud of Claire and thankful she is part of our team.

Jarod Miller, 14 years old, has been swimming for 7 years as an Oskaloosa Dolphin.

The Mahaska County YMCA proudly nominates Jarod Miller for the 2014-2015 All-Star Team. He has been swimming for the Oskaloosa Dolphins for 7 years and it is by far his favorite activity. He will take any opportunity to be in the water and that shows in how he challenged himself with new events including the 100 fly, 200 breaststroke and 400 IM. Jarod demonstrates such a competitive spirit and it is always exciting to watch him race.

Outside of the water, he likes participating on the Oskaloosa Shooting Team. His other interests include archery, cycling, drawing, reading and having airsoft wars with his friends. Jarod is a member of the First Christian Church and a Middle School honor roll student.
