Indoor All-MCC Honors Announced

Oskaloosa–Nearly 20 William Penn indoor track and field athletes received all-Midwest Collegiate Conference honors for their efforts this season.

All-MCC awards are given to all athletes finishing in the top three in individual events, in the top two in a relay event, or first in an event not contested at the league championships. Honorable-mention awards also go to any other athletes meeting the NAIA’s qualifying standard who were not already named all-MCC in their event.

The men notched 13 laurels, while the women earned three.

Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Elementary Education) was named MCC Track Athlete of the Year, while Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) claimed the MCC Field Athlete of the Year accolade. Edwards won the MCC’s 400, 600, and 800-meter events and also paced the 4×800-meter relay squad to the win. McCastle was the league champion in the high jump and triple jump.

CJ Watts (Jr., Rockville, Md., Physical Education) (third in the 400-meter dash and 600-meter run), Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) (second in the 60-meter dash, third in the long lump), and Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) (second in the shot put, third in the weight throw) all received two honors each.

Charlie Rachford (Fr., Agency, Iowa) and Markenson Charles (So., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Industrial Technology) were first and second in the 60-meter hurdles, while Kalob Gist (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) won the shot put.

Jaylin Thomas (So., Baton Rouge, La., Biology) finished second in the long jump and Ochaung Akway (Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Physical Education) was third in the 5,000-meter run.

Payton Busch (So., Centerville, Iowa), Zach Johnson (Fr., Decatur, Ill., Mechanical Engineering), and Nick Thomas (Sr., Salmon, Idaho, Physical Education) joined Edwards on the winning 4×8 squad.

On the women’s side, Tarah Alexander (Jr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) took the 800-meter run title at the league championships, while Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) placed second in the shot put and Raveen Rhone (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif., Biology) earned third place in the triple jump.
