Jo Ann Fredrickson, 85 of Des Moines and formerly of Montezuma passed away Wednesday morning, February 25, 2015 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. Jo Ann Fredrickson, the daughter of Francis and Josephine (Sheppard) Fredrickson, was born on December 26, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Jo Ann graduated from New Sharon High School in 1948. Following high school, Jo Ann moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for her uncle in a grocery store for a couple of years before moving back to New Sharon to work for Taintor Savings bank, where she worked for several years. She then worked a couple of years at the elevator in Montezuma before working for Peoples Savings Bank, retiring in 1995 after several years of service.

She was the New Sharon Centennial Queen in 1956, where she served very graciously. Jo Ann was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church, attending very regularly until her failing health.

Jo Ann loved her lake home at Lake Ponderosa. She enjoyed the outdoors, taking nature photos and fishing. She was an avid reader, enjoyed poetry and taking morning walks with her walking group.

Jo Ann is survived by her siblings: Janet (& Jim) Van Dee of Des Moines, William (& Mildred) Smith of California, Tina Fredrickson of Hawaii and Gloria Moeller of California; and her nieces, Denise (Durst) Greene, Lu (Hull) Cagin, Renee (Van Dee) Scott, and Rita (Van Dee) Holt; many great nieces and nephews; two great-great nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Josephine Smith; her biological father, Francis Fredrickson; three siblings: Francine Hull, Pam Steele and Raymond Smith; and a nephew, Steven Van Dee.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Following the service, her body will be cremated.
Burial will be held in the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Poweshiek Animal League (PALS).
