WPU 21st in Fifth Track and Field Ranking

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s indoor track and field is still in the top 25 as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its fifth ranking today.

WPU is three rungs lower than last week to #21, despite improving in points to 66.47. Multiple event national qualifiers Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) continue to pick up huge points.

Edwards, who has qualified in four events (400, 600, 800, and 1,000-meter runs), is currently good for 34.11 points. McCastle’s point tally has improved to 22.53 points in the high, long, and triple jumps. Edwards ranks third in the 600 and ninth in the 800, while McCastle is seventh in the high jump.

Fellow qualifiers CJ Watts (Jr., Rockville, Md.) (3.56 points in the 400 and 600) and Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) (5.09 points in the weight throw and shot put) also have solid contributions for William Penn.

Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) (1.13 points in the triple jump, long jump, and 60-meter dash) and Kalob Gist (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) (0.04 points in shot put) are also posting points for the Statesmen.

The NAIA’s top five remains unchanged with Indiana Tech still first, while Doane (Neb.), Wayland Baptist (Texas), Concordia (Neb.), and Oklahoma Baptist follow. Grand View is the Midwest Collegiate Conference’s next team, ranking #26 with 53.44 points.

The Statesmen women are down to 93rd as Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) has claimed all 0.46 points in the shot put.

Indiana Tech is still the #1 women’s program, while Doane (Neb.), Wayland Baptist (Texas), Oklahoma Baptist, and Cornerstone (Mich.) finish off the top five.

Grand View is topping the MCC in 21st with 51.41 points.
