The William Penn University Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be sponsoring a Fields of Faith event on campus at the PAC in the indoor football practice facility starting at 6:00 PM on Saturday, February 28.

The evening will feature contemporary Christian music as well as the speaker Linda Hoskins, a 1977 graduate of WPU. Hoskins, then known as Linda Buckingham, played softball and earned a degree in education. She returned to her hometown Albia, Iowa to teach physical education and social studies while coaching both softball and basketball. After 20 years in the class room and earning her degree in administration, Hoskins became an assistant principal and within two years became High School principal. Hoskins served at that position for 15 years. She is now in her first year of retirement.

In 1974 she and her husband Steve were married. They added five children to the family and now enjoy five grandchildren. In 2010 Hoskins was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s decease and did battle with this cancer until being pronounced in remission. In 2011 she, her oncologist and other cancer survivors took on the challenge of climbing Mt. Everest.

Hoskins will speak on how her faith helped her survive cancer and eventually climb Mt. Everest. “It is about grace under your nose every second,” says Hoskins. “You learn that there is a cause beyond yourself and you learn that dignity goes out the window and you have to let people help you.”

Schedule: 6:00-Opening music; 6:10- welcome by FCA members at WPU; 6:20- more music from WPU worship band; 6:45- Hoskins “Faith is a Bridge” 7:10- small group discussion and mixer; 7:45- closing.

The event is free for anyone who would enjoy the evening: youth groups, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddles, college groups from around Southern Iowa, or anyone who would like to worship as well as have some fun!
