Carolyn Jeanne Malloy, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Carolyn Jeanne Malloy, the daughter of Earl Edward and Irene Mildred Smith Barron, was born Wednesday, March 22, 1933, at her country home in Jefferson County, Iowa.
Carolyn graduated from Ottumwa High School with the class of 1950. She then attended and graduated from Iowa Success Business College.
On October 26, 1952, Carolyn was united in marriage to Donald E. Malloy in Ottumwa.
Carolyn began her career at John Deere in Ottumwa, and later was employed in Oskaloosa by Ideal Ready Mix, and Binns & Stevens until her retirement.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa and served as the treasurer of DWF Women’s Group, and was also treasurer for the Oskaloosa Women’s Club. Carolyn was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Ecumenical Cupboard, and also served as Cub Scout Den Mother when her son Randy was younger.
Carolyn loved flowers, especially iris’. She loved playing cards and dominos, spending time with friends, and getting together with the Iowa Power Retirees Group once a month. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, traveling with the bank group, and baking birthday cakes for family members.
Carolyn’s family includes her daughter, Cindy (& Steve) Scholtus of Oskaloosa; two sons: Randy (& Carla) Malloy of Oskaloosa and Tim (& Jennifer) Malloy of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Mica (& Daryl) Cavin, Cami Grubb, Joshua (& Melissa) Scholtus, Justin (& Kayla) Scholtus, and Cody Scholtus (& fiancée Emily Brown), Tyler Malloy, Emma Malloy; and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great granddaughter, Morgan Malloy; and two brothers, Ron and Steve Barron.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson and Reverend Andrea Brownlee officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Sunday from 1 – 4 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Carolyn Malloy Memorial Fund, which will be designated at a later time.
