The Mahaska County YMCA held the 4th annual Osky Winter Open on the weekend of February 13 & 14, 2015. The event kicked off with a two-person team tournament at noon on Friday. We had 13 teams participate this year. All participants enjoyed lunch provided by Hy-Vee, while awards were announced. The tournament winners were Eric Stout and Doug Cohrt with a 97. Jake Edmundson and Chris Weber shot a 105, which earned 2nd place. Chris Roach and Jason Shafer rounded out the Championship flight with a 107. First Flight winners were Andy Hotek & Tim Scott shooting a 110 with there was a tie for 2nd with Zach Pease & Steve VanZee and Kent Peterson & Mary Ruffridge each shooting a 113. The 2nd Flight was captured by Melissa & Ross Schultz with the teams of Adam Brink & Clint Kelderman & Jeff Belger & Donna DeJoode rounding out the flight.
Following the tournament, The Y’s after school program played the course during a special field trip Friday afternoon. This was followed by the middle school night with over 128 kids participating in mini putt along with many other games and activities” said Phelps. At the conclusion of the event on Saturday, the People’s Choice award was awarded to Cablevey Conveyors for the 3rd time in a row. “We are very pleased with the success,” said David Phelps, YMCA Executive Director. The tournament is a fun part of our fundraising campaign. All of the proceeds of this event will go to support the Mahaska County YMCA.
“The Osky Winter Open has become an annual highlight on the YMCA event calendar. It’s truly a great opportunity for youth, teens and adults in the community to have some fun during the long winter months, while raising funds for the YMCA,” said Kristen Bandy, committee chair. “The event could not succeed without the many businesses who sponsor holes, putting their creative energy and genius on display. The event is growing because the players and sponsors are having fun and believe in the Y mission.”
“I would like to thank all of our sponsors and the efforts of our dedicated volunteer committee for all of their help with this event. A special thanks to Kristen Bandy for her organization of this event, and to Mike Gipple for his tireless help at coordinating the holes and construction expertise. The Mahaska County YMCA is fortunate to have the support of so many people in our community.” Said Phelps.
