Betty Jane Thomas, 73, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Saturday, April 5, 1941 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer and Dorothy Baker Brewer.

Betty attended school in Minnesota. Betty was a homemaker, she owned and operated BJ Collectibles and worked as a bookkeeper for H. E. Bowns Trucking.

On July 14, 1989, Betty was united in marriage to Jack Thomas in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Betty enjoyed collecting cats, playing cards, reading Nora Roberts books, and watching scary movies. She had a great love for all animals.

Betty was a member of the V.F.W. and a longtime supporter of ASPCA.

Her family includes her husband, Jack Thomas of Oskaloosa; four daughters: Theresa (& Don) Holsomback of Kansas City, Debera (& Everardo) Zavala of Elm Mott, Texas; Rhonda Boggan of Wheeling, Illinois and Donna (& Tom) Mateer of Oskaloosa; two sons: James (& Jo) Dyke of Beaufort, South Carolina and Christopher Dyke of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren: Everardo, Jr., Cristina, Victoria, Alicia, Joshua, Heather, Samantha, Angi, Stephanie, Elizabeth and Sarah; 12 great grandchildren: Jonathan, Corbin, Bert, Hayden, Colter, Hailee, Isaiah, Karli, Maria, Joshua, Elijah and Eriana; a brother, Dale (& Rose) Brewer of Northway, Alaska; and three sisters: Linda (& Joe) Goeing of Polk City, Iowa, Babara Mericle of Arkansas and Kathleen Roberts of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeffrey Dean Dyke; a great grandchild; three daughters: Dorothy May Dyke, Brenda Lee Dyke, Christine Ellen Dyke; and two sisters: Patricia and JoAnn.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at Highland Cemetery in New Sharon with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating.
Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel Thursday, February 19, 2015 after 1 P.M. and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Thursday from 4 – 6 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.
