AOY Winners Take AOW Honors
Oskaloosa–The two individuals who accomplished the most for the Statesmen indoor track and field team last weekend swept the Midwest Collegiate Conference Track and Field weekly awards Monday.
Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Elementary Education) was named Track athlete for the ninth time in his career (third this season), while Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) claimed the Field athlete laurel for the sixth career time (fourth this year).
The duo’s efforts helped William Penn to second place at the MCC Championships over the weekend–its highest finish ever in the league’s indoor meet.
Edwards, who notched his third MCC AOY accolade, won the 400 (49.74 seconds), 600 (1:19.75), and 800-meter races (2:01.40) and was a member of the winning 4×800-meter relay team that crossed the line in 8:27.45.
The MCC’s Field Athlete of the Year, McCastle topped the field in the high jump at 6-7 and the triple jump at 45-7.75 and helped the Statesmen’s 4×400-meter relay team to third in a time of 3:28.27.
Edwards ranks second in the NAIA in the 600 (1:19.75), eighth in the 800 (1:53.71), and 12th in the 1000 (2:30.87), while McCastle is fifth nationally in the high jump (6-10.25).
