Cheryl Renee Phillips, 49, of Rose Hill, died Friday, February 6, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born March 24, 1965, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Ruth Langstraat Hayes.

Cheryl graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1983. She attended college in Duluth, Minnesota.

Cheryl worked for many years at the old Marcella’s Taliare Shoppe in Oskaloosa. When that shop closed, she did alterations and sewing out of her home.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa and she attended the First Baptist Church in Fremont.

Cheryl enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, needlework and sewing.

Her family includes her three children: Matthew Phillips of Rose Hill, Lindzee Phillips of Oskaloosa and Violet Phillips of Rose Hill; a grandson, Jesse Cottington; her parents, Otto and Ruth Hayes of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Ruth Lahvic of Greenville, Texas and Alleda (& Larry) Stein of Oskaloosa; two brothers: Jarius Hayes of Greenfield, Missouri, and Gregory (& Crystal) Hayes of Rose Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

As was Cheryl’s wish her body has been cremated.
No visitation is planned.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton.
The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.
