OFD Aids Centerville FD While They Honor One Of Their Own

The Oskaloosa Fire Department was Centerville today, February 7, 2015, helping to provide emergency services to that community while they laid Centerville Assistant Fire Chief Michael Cooper to rest. Cooper died in the line of duty as a result of efforts at the Cowan Enterprises structure fire.

The Mahaska County CERT Team also served the Centerville community on Saturday, helping with parking and other tasks as assigned. The team has performed other such roles in the past, such as helping to direct parking during the funeral for Keokuk County Deputy Eric Stein.

The Mahaska County CERT Team also responds to assist in times of natural disasters, such as the violent windstorm that impacted Oskaloosa last year, and assisting the community of New Sharon during multiple flooding events.

On Saturday, these seven CERT Members took time out of their weekend to volunteer their service: Kevin Utterback, Kate Shannon, Austin Witt, T.J. Frank, Kipp Schuler, Jeff Ridenour and Jeff McVey.
