Supervisors Approve Courthouse Roof Bid
Oskaloosa, Iowa- A bid has been awarded for the Mahaska County Courthouse roof project. At their meeting on Monday, the Mahaska County Supervisors voted unanimously to approve a bid from Renaissance Roofing in the amount of $67,805. The final amount included two alternatives for hurricane clips and snow guards on the roof. Supervisor Mike Vander Molen noted that Iowa Code required the Supervisors to take the lowest responsible bidder of the three bids received. “I consider Renaissance to be the responsible bidder,” Vander Molen said. The vote to approve the bid passed 3-0.
Also up for consideration was a request for the use of TIF funds. The request came from Co-Line Manufacturing for a 15 year tax rebate using TIF Funds. Co-Line Founder Dale Brand was on hand to talk about Co-Line’s history, as well as a planned expansion of Co-Line.”I want to do all I can to set them [the company] up with success in the future,” Brand said.
Brand noted he has an ongoing relationship with the County. “I have enjoyed a partnership with Mahaska County over the years and want to continue that if we can,” Brand also said.
Supervisor Mike Vander Molen noted support for the proposed expansion of Co-Line and of the company itself. “It’s a very valuable asset for our community,” Vander Molen said. Vander Molen went on to say, “It’s something I think we need to move forward on and push down the line”. In the end, the board voted 3-0 to support the TIF request and to appoint Supervisor Mike Vander Molen to oversee and collaborate with the builder and MCDG (Mahaska Community Development Group) regarding the project.
In other action, the board:
- Tabled action on a resolution approving transfer of the County Farm
- Approved the creation of an IT Committee
- Received a presentation on the Mahaska County Conference Room Plan from IT Coordinator Darin Hite.
The next meeting of the Mahaska County Supervisors will be on February 16th, at 9:00 am in the Supervisor Meeting Room.
