Gregory Alan Markko of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on February 1, 2015. Gregory Alan Markko was born, January 11, 1959, in Lima, Ohio to Rudolph Edwin Markko and Pauline Leola Ruddy.

Greg earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, a law degree from The Ohio State University, and he studied political science at the University of Iowa.

Greg came to William Penn as an assistant professor in 1989 after serving as an instructor at Texas A&M and the University of Iowa. Greg taught several different courses during his 26 years at Penn and was an engaging and challenging teacher. Greg received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1991.

He served on several faculty governance committees and provided excellent leadership in the role of liaison to the North Central Association Higher Learning Commission.

Greg loved golf, music, and art. He was a respected teacher and an admired colleague. His dry wit and social and political commentary will be missed.

As was his wish, Greg’s body has been cremated.
His urn will be buried next to his mother back in their home state of Ohio.
Memorials may be made to a scholarship established in Greg’s honor, the Greg Markko Endowed Scholarship at William Penn University.
