Paul T. Gott, 54, of Oskaloosa passed away early Tuesday morning, January 27, 2015, at his home in Oskaloosa. Paul Thomas Gott, son of Terry Paul and Mary Elizabeth (Deaver) Gott, was born, May 15, 1960, in Oskaloosa.

Paul was a 1978 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. After finishing his education, he immediately began working at Oskaloosa Engineering and Manufacturing. He started as a machine operator and by the time he left that employment in 1994, he was the plant manager. Paul was then hired by Vermeer Manufacturing, where he worked in the machine shops as a group leader in plants 3,6,7,5 and lastly in plant 2. In late summer 2014, Paul’s health required an early departure from Vermeer Mfg.

Paul married Linda Jo Playle, November 23, 1979, in Oskaloosa. Paul loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren, who nicknamed him “the Fun Grandpa”. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears and watching John Wayne movies.

Paul’s true passion was music, specifically country music. From high school on, he played lead guitar in many bands, including: T39, Reflections, Whiskey River, Counterfeit Radio, and Wind River, just to name a few. They played in all sorts of venues, from V.F.W.s, and Elks Clubs to Wedding Celebrations and hotel lounges. On one occasion, they even traveled to New York City.

Paul’s family includes his wife Linda of 35 years; his son, Justin Gott of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Payton and Alivia; his mother, Mary Gott of Beacon; his brothers: Terry (& Gina) Gott, Phil Gott, and Tim (& Cas) Gott, all of Oskaloosa; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Terry, in 2003.

As was his wish, Paul’s body has been cremated.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Beacon Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Glesener officiating.
Family and friends may gather at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel on Thursday and will depart for the cemetery at 12:40 p.m.
