Norma Arlene Den Adel

Ames. Norma Arlene Den Adel, 88, of Ames, Iowa, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at her son’s home in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born May 3, 1922, at Moberly, Missouri, the daughter of Carl Robert and Nina Leona Briscoe Watson. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1940. Following high school she went to work as a telephone operator for the telephone company. She also worked at the Oskaloosa Public Library for a time. On April 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to G. John Den Adel. He died December 22, 1964. She was a devoted homemaker who returned to work after the death of her husband, and worked nineteen years at the Wilcox Library at William Penn College, until her retirement from there in 1991. She enjoyed needlework, watching sports, and was an avid reader. Early on she was a very active member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.

Her family includes her two sons and their wives: Randy and Diane Den Adel of Ames and Robert and Terry Den Adel of Nashville, Tennessee; six grandchildren: Justin Den Adel, Jamie Den Adel, Angela Den Adel Sacks, John Den Adel, Scott Den Adel, and Jennifer Den Adel; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a daughter Melodye Ann Den Adel.

Graveside funeral services and burial for Norma Den Adel will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Omundson officiating. A procession will form at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday for those wishing to go to the cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
