Betty Allgood, 89, of Oskaloosa passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, at her home in Oskaloosa. Betty Jean Allgood, daughter of Harry and Olive Beatrice (James) Reynolds, was born September 30, 1925, in Oskaloosa.
Betty was a 1944 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Following her education, Betty worked for several years as a bookkeeper for a heating and cooling business. May 15, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Billy E. Allgood at the First Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. While her children were young, Betty was a stay-at-home mom, but later went to work as a clerk at J.C. Penneys. In 1978, she began working as a teller in the drive-through banking area for Mahaska State Bank. She remained at the bank for six years, retiring in 1984, when she and Billy began wintering in Apache Junction, AZ. They enjoyed many winters in Apache Junction, making many new friends.
Betty was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church where she was very active. She was also a member of King’s Daughters and Eastern Star.
She loved cooking for her family and having them near.
Betty’s family includes her husband of 67 years, Billy of Oskaloosa; a son, Jim E. Allgood of Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Shirley (& Gary) Malin of Oskaloosa; grandchildren: Jayme (& Nicole) Malin of North Liberty, IA and Jodi (& Mike) Clement of Ames, IA; four great-grandchildren: Liahna, Elise, and Kiara Malin, and Kyle Clement; six sisters-in-law: Phyllis (& Harley) Yates, Joyce (& Richard) Emanuel, Carmen Allgood, all of Oskaloosa, Judy Allgood of Gowrie, Phyllis Allgood of Grayslake, IL and Betty Allgood of Phoenix, AZ; six brothers-in-law: Ronald Allgood, Dennis (& Marlene) Allgood, Les Cubit, and Albert Bloodsworth, all of Oskaloosa, Rex (& Marge) Allgood of What Cheer, and Stephen (& Betty) Allgood of Eddyville; several nieces and nephews; and her loving caretakers: Nola and Shelby Sharp.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Inez Bloodsworth and Judy Cubit; and three brothers-in-law: Donald, Jack, and Larry Allgood.
Funeral Services for Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Rev. Andrea Brownlee of the First Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m., Monday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
