David Martin Roberts, 76, of rural Albia, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at his home. He was born February 17, 1938, in Monroe County, the son of Martin and Ermal McMulin Roberts.

Dave graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1956. He served in the United States Army Reserves. Early on he worked for Floyd McKissic in Albia doing small engine and lawnmower repairs. On July 23, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patricia Berry at the Pleasant Corners Baptist Church near Eddyville.

Dave’s passion was farming, he lived and worked on the family farm in rural Monroe County most of his life. His favorite part of the farm was his livestock, he found great joy in raising cattle. He also did a lot of custom bulldozing, building ponds and terraces for many area farmers. He was a great steward of the land and resources.

Dave was a member of the Monroe County Church of the Brethern. He had served on the board of the Pleasant Corners Cemetery and the Eddyville Fire Agency.

He enjoyed antique tractors, fishing trips to Canada with his family, and visiting with his coffee buddies at Casey’s in Eddyville. He delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his wife of over 48 years, Patti Roberts of rural Albia; two sons and their wives: Dr. Michael (& Teri) Roberts of Maryville, Missouri, and Brent (& Ann) Roberts of rural Albia; a daughter and her husband, Brenda (& Chris) Loudermilk of Groveland, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Ben, Jane, Grace, Zeb and Allie Roberts; Kate and Connor Loudermilk; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard Roberts.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Monroe County Church of the Brethern in rural Monroe County.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Corners Cemetery near Eddyville. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday morning after 10 and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Sunday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorial may be made to Mahaska Hospice or Eddyville Parks and Recreation.
