Akway Finishes 216th Nationally

Lawrence, Kan.–Ochaung Akway (Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Physical Education) ended his cross country season by running at the NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championships Saturday.

Akway, who made it to nationals by placing second at the league championships two weeks ago, placed 216th out of 320 runners with a time of 27:25.30 on the 8K course at Rim Rock Farm.

He was the top runner from the Midwest Collegiate Conference at nationals, beating the next closest league competitor by 20 seconds.

Benard Keter of Wayland Baptist (Texas) won the individual crown with a time of 24:36.40, while Oklahoma City defended its team title with 55 points (all five scorers in the top 21). Southern Oregon was a distant team runner-up with 113 points.
