Rhonda Roorda, 52 of Montezuma, passed away Sunday morning, November 16, 2014 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Rhonda Lynn Roorda, the daughter of Ed and Sheryl (Atcheson) Weaklend, was born on March 30, 1962 in Osceola, Iowa.

Rhonda graduated from Clarke Community High School with the class of 1980. On December 7, 2007, she was united in marriage to John Roorda. Rhonda worked at Osceola Vision Center and was the office manager at the Heartland Eye Care in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, retiring in 2012 due to health reasons.

Rhonda carried her father’s passion for breeding and raising horses. She was an active member of the Iowa Buckskin Association, the American Buckskin Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. She raised and showed multiple world champion quarter horses.

Rhonda also enjoyed her Australian Shepherd dogs, going on Ranger rides and spending time with her husband, John.

Rhonda is survived by her husband, John Roorda; her mother, Sheryl Weaklend; her sister, Teresa (& Wendell Jr.) Christensen, her father and mother-in-law, Bruce and Judi Roorda; her sister-in-law, Lynne (& Mark) Yontz, her brother-in-law, Jason (& Angela) Roorda; her nephews, Jason (& Sheena) Christensen, Jacob Christensen, Barrett and Brayden Roorda; her niece, Paige Yontz and great-nephews, Kolton and Brody Christensen. Rhonda also leaves behind her three Australian Shepherd dogs, Maxi, Molly and Cody.

Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, Ed Weaklend in 2006; and her grandparents.

Memorial services will begin at 3:00 pm Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Saturday with the family present from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department or the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
