Mark Lanphier, 54, of Oskaloosa, passed away suddenly Thursday evening at his parent’s home in Oskaloosa. He was born May 31, 1960, at Oskaloosa, the son of Delores Mitrisin Lanphier and Howard Lanphier.

Mark started school in Oskaloosa, he moved with his mother and siblings to North Carolina during his high school years. Following high school he joined the United States Coast Guard and served on the USS Primrose.

In 1982 Mark was united in marriage to Kim Ingle in North Carolina. To this union two children were born, Nick and Meagan. Mark and Kim later divorced. Later, Mark was united in marriage to Un T Won in North Carolina.

Mark worked at a number of jobs during his lifetime. He was a maintenance manager of University Mall at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Later, he became Maintenance Director at the Chapel Hill Tennis Club at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He moved back to Iowa in 2011. He took a position managing the Sears Store in Oskaloosa, and currently was working at Pepsi Cola Bottling.

Mark was a talented musician and songwriter. He enjoyed playing jam sessions with his friends at clubs in Oskaloosa. He was a very attentive and loving father, son and grandfather.

His family includes his son, Nick (& Cristi) Lanphier and their daughter Anastyn of Georgia; daughter and husband, Meagan Lanphier & Nick Riddle, and Nick’s son Chase, all of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; his father & step mother, Howard (& Linda) Lanphier of Oskaloosa; a brother, Mike (& Laura) Lanphier; his sister and spouse, Cathy Lanphier (& Robin) of Zebulon, North Carolina; nieces and nephews: Zachary, Mitchell, Caroline, Mia, and Leyna; three step-brothers: Tony Wilson and Troy Wilson of Cedar Rapids, and Travis Wilson of Oskaloosa.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Delores; and a sister, Connie Rauch.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
As was Mark’s wish his body will be cremated and burial will be at a later date.
Military Rites will be given by Members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and VFW at the funeral home. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
